Hey guys, i was wondering if someone would be tell me the best sites for recording which visitors came to your website.
Ideally i'm looking for
1)one which records ip addresses
2)one which records referrals (how they found the site)
3)one that is free
4)one that is private/password protected so that only i can see the stats.
I looked at site meter but it looks like you have to pay?
Thanks in advanced. x

Statcounter.com is by the far the best (and free) that I've come across. It has all the features you listed including the private as well as a public option.
You can also use google analytics, but once thing about google analytics is that it slows a website down a bit as compared to statcounter, maybe its just me.

Well not sure about what you wanna find, but google analytics is great and very detailed in alot of respects. I use it on my site and it works great, love it. Its at www.google.com/analytics

Google analytics is the Best as I know and Im using it for a lot of days,
Also, its easy to integrate the Google analytics code into your Website,CMS,... manually or by Modules.

Just a correction, "how they found the site" = "referrers", not "referrals".
I usually use AWstats which is provided along with cpanel in my host (so it's free because it comes with the host and it's password protected).
I think Sitemeter has the free and paid version. You can choose the free version if you wish, perhaps with some limitation. I tried them but it was a long time ago, so I forgot.
Another site that may fulfil your need is mon.itor.us (http://mon.itor.us). It's kind of new, but it seems like it is powerful (it's featured in killerstartups.com). I'm planning to try that for myself soon.

I recommend StatCounter.com as one of the best free stats sites. It has many useful features.
You can have accurate real time stats with detailed visitor tracking and analysis, plus you can download summary stats of your web sites in Excel or CSV format.
What I think good is the invisible tracking system. It shows no ads, so your web pages look a little cleaner.

i think awstats and extremetracking are the best ones for site stats! since google bought analytics and turn it to free for webmasters (analytics was a paid service before) rates of these stat services has decreased but webmasters still use extremetracking cuz sometimes add buyers have trust problems with screenshots. In my opinion extremetracking is still best way to prove your site traffic!!
