I code by hand and use Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) Its awesome!
It has syntax highlighting that is absolutely the best thing in the world. You can spot a mistake from a mile away!

I think dreamweaver is the best for PHP as there are lots and lots of features available...
I am using DM since 1.5 years and very happy with this...

for php you should have a look at php designer 2007, really good built in ready to use functions and this automatic thing that if you type n half of the function such as incl then include() appears and you press enter in include() is entered. Nice quick you have also project manager, todo list etc.
Take a look on google php designer 2007,
by the way it's very user freindly/

Tell you what - we need something like RoR for PHP - I had a look at it when I was looking at Ruby itself - it saves so much time!! I seem to remember a while back that there were a group of people developing something like it, but I don't know if it ever came to anything - anyone know anything?
