How to advertise my classified site

I have a classified site (Specific topic). But not sure how to advertise it.... I can't just call people up or email them and point them to my site as that is considered spam.

Any ideas?

if i was you here is what i would do

1)write and submit a press release

2)write articles relative to that niche and submit them to article directory's


3)submit the site to stumble

4)submit the site to social bookmarking sites

5)submit the site to directory's

6) exchange links with website in that niche

8)post on forums related to that niche with your site in your signature

all of the above can be done for free and will help you get some traffic and a higher pr. however if you have money
to spend on advertising i would also follow these steps

9) set up a Google adwords campaign

10) purchase advertising on relative sites to that niche

Thanks for the reply! :) Was trying to think of ways to advertise it more offline than online. Should of mentioned it in the first post... sorry. But thanks for the suggestions. :)

to advertise it offline well i dont know how large the niche is but there could be magazines related to it maybe buy a few and check out there advertising rates

If you want to do some offline too I would try to use word of mouth and maybe have some flyers about the site if you think you could get attention offline nas well for your classified site.

offline I give out mouse pads with the sites logo and adress at events in the town.
