i want to know whats the ideal way to promote a site? i'm a young web designer, and coder that wants to sell my services over the net whats the best way to get known?
Submit sites to social bookmarking sites, put a link to the site in your signature in all forums you visit, exchange links with other sites. Recommend the sites to your friends. You might be able to get about 100+ visitors per day and it would slowly go up to 1000+ visitors. Make sure that the content of the website is good.
I suggest you to make your own website where you put all your work you have done and tell the people that this is your work. You can make friends on different forums that will help you alot. Put your website's URL in your signature so that others can see your work.

search on google for things like "where to get cheap codes", find forums like this where people are asking around for cheap coding or designs. curtly direct them to your page, perhaps enticing them with a discount or free trial. ALWAYS have something very impressive finished beforehand to show them you're for real.

ok kool so is it advisalbe to work for free to build status then when i have a name start charge
i would suggest directories, you get alot of traffic from them, plus the extra backlinks and pr are good if you ever decide to sell your site.

ok kool so thanx guys so the web directory is one of the best way to go.
I usually launch a website by posting it on digg and shoutwire. This gives a good "boost" of visitors at the beginning and then (hopefully, if people like it) establishes a good base of visitors.

I suggest you develop some really cool turnkey sites for sale which is really cool... some thing like yabsoft.com which made him very popular for his file/image hosting script.

That is also a good idea :)

Although this is more on a code side I still feel this is relevant. I feel one the best ways to make sure your site gets noticed is to simply put meta data in the HTML, which many beginner web developers tend to leave out. Also, make sure all your pages have something as a title <head><title>Make sure you put something here!</title></head> . Do a google search on Untitled-1, you'll be surprised. Although these are simple additions they'll really help your traffic and search engine recognition.
Meta data
<meta name="author/copyright/description/keywords" content="your name/copyright/just a simple description of your site/possible related keywords separated by commas" />
Of course you'd do these in their own seperate meta fields... ie.<meta name="author" content="Sean Webmaster" /> so on and so forth.
I know this was a lengthy description for something simple but it really works to get your traffic up!

The best way is to get on the first page in google results. You can get higher by optimize your site, add your site to directories, social bookmarking sites, blogs, forum signatures, etc.
An other good thing is to search some quality linktrades.
So the main thing to get your site high in google is finding quality backlinks and great content.

The most popular ways are simply going to forums, and adding your site to the signature, buying ad space (you never specified if you wanted to put money into it).
Ad space is probably the best I would say if you want fast results. Otherwise, simply going around to different forums and getting your site known is the best way.

My regards to the members, all of us now that to make a site popular we need to have good content in them. But, there are many techniques that can be employed to get the sites up and running. SEO techniques play an important role in getting the job done.
