i agree with jani, start a website make good content, make free graphics and/or designs for people so you can add them to a portfolio. Try to get link back. Voila. Ooh and get a website and try to keep it simple and clean. What I have heard alot is that costumers and I don;t know why rather give a project to a designer who;'s website is simple and clean. Maybe because you can see what for person you're dealng with based on design. If web design is really busy, the design will be very full too.
