Yeah, reading all the posts on here, I feel like I've kinda left it too late, but hey!! :)
I started building websites when I was like 12 or something - first site I built was for a clan I was in - needless to say, it tanked!!
I taught myself everything - mostly from online tutorials (any just about old enough to remember those really bad "So, you want to.......huh?" tutorials!?!)
Anyway, as I improved, I started building sites for a couple of clients, but I wasn;t getting much work in, and I wasn't getting much money from it either (I was probably building about one site per yeah, getting about £300 ($600)). Somewhere round this point I learn't my first programming language - Perl, but soon realised that it was a pain in the arse and switches over to PHP.
Anyway, I kept going, mostly writing free PHP scripts, and working with a m8 of mine on a web help site - PCHelpZone.net (which has since closed).
Fast forward to uni, I'm at the end of my first year, and I was about £1000 ($2000) into my overdraft!! - trying to come up with a way of making some money, and somone was selling a couple of really good domains really cheap - I picked up sheergaming.com sheerbetting.com for $10 each. I then started advertising these domains, and sold sheergaming for $60 :).I then looked for other things I could actually do, and joined a freelance site. That was 3 weeks ago, and in the past 3 weeks I have made just over $1000 - I'm now looking at paying off some of my overdraft, doing some more freelance programming, and buying an established site to work on:)
Hope I havn't bored anyone too much! ;)
