How would you start to market a forum?

I am in the process of starting up a Fantasy Football Forum website and with luck, I should have it finished in 2 weeks time. (second site in signature).

As my first website (also undergong a total revamp) already has ready made traffic as its much older and has a PR4 ranking, trying to find traffic has not been as issue.

With the football season almost over, it gives me 3 months to start building traffic to the football forum.

If there were 5 steps you would take, what would you do?

Should I try and drive traffic to thefantasyfootballforum.com or thefantasyfootballforum.com/forum?

I have thought about buying something like submiteaze to help speed up the process of search engine and directory submissions?

Your thoughts and suggestions much appreciated...

Paid posts/content could be a good way to start if you have funds, also try to offer something on your forum that is unique :)

my forum stated about a week ago, 75 members 1.3k post +, so its doing well the trick is to get as many ppl linking to you as possible

Curious, where or how did you get people to link to you?

The best option would be to attract visitors to register and start posting and it can be done by giving prizes to them by having contests and games. You can also reward people for their activity. Revenue sharing also attracts few visitors now a days.

Go to sports forums and be active there with a link in your signature to your site. I would link to the main site until you get more active forums, then link straight to them.

The secret is
BE SOCIALIZED.

Get to know a lot of people places like MySpace,Orkut, etc etc, talk with them and be friends as many as you can, kindly invite them after a week or so and they will do Something to help you run that forum.

submitaze i don't think that will help you in submitting your website , rather i know some one who does this submissions very promptly ..
