If you visit godaddy, you will see here, they give you huge size of hosting & bandwidth only for low price.
But it is impossible to run a hosting company with this kind huge hosting at this low price product. when godaddy give this huge offer for first time, people was coming to get that. but most of people were not satisfied, when their account are blocked for too many usage like using 10gb space or 50gb bandwidth. that is cause for overselling.
few days ago, i was visit in a hosting reseller site, i read this from there & this will explain what is overselling:
Overselling enabled is where we take the amount of disk space and bandwidths ACTUAL USE between all your accounts.

For example, if you had the 5 GB space and 50 GB transfer plan and you decided to offer plans such as 1 GB space and 10 GB transfer on your site, you would only be able to offer it to 5 clients.

With overselling enabled, you would be able to offer as many as you want as long as the aggregated amount USED does not go over the 5 GB space and 50 GB transfer.

Now, from my opinion, please don't use this kind overselling site.

Things like overselling are part of a business plan, implemented by a business/company. One of the main companies who do this are hostgator.com but they will always have some sort of system, if the plan fails but obviously it's not failing.

Honestly i would have to say that overselling is a business tool that is utilized to gain business. I dont see anything wrong with it if the host can live up to these expectations of what they offer. Larger corporations can actually afford to do so. You have to think outside of the relm of how much physical HDD space can one machine have, because im sure they utilize virtual web space as well. Its a business model that is tried and true and honestly is needed if any host intends on surviving in the industry. Customer want more for their dollar. Thats just my 2 cents though.
